I fell into the burning ring of “FIRED”

by Maren on April 11, 2013

Hi guys! Are you really stoked it’s Friday?

I have some news, which isn’t great news, but it’s still news so I’m going to throw it out there anyways…

I was fired last Thursday.

I wrote an email to a man I’d been corresponding with on a potential project for the gallery. I used the phrase “please contact me with any questions” and I was fired because I didn’t put “us“. I’m not a team player. Well, that’s what they said.

I’ve been a little rattled. I’ve never been fired before.

I totally get how getting fired is a complete life ruiner and why it completely messes people up. I’d only worked there for 10 days. I can’t imagine if I’d been there for years and had really delved in.

I applied to a couple jobs a few days ago. They weren’t jobs I really really wanted and I think I really half trashed my cover letters. I just applied to- sort of break the ice. I’ve felt really un-confident about applying again and looking at job listings. I thought maybe just applying a few times would soften the blow each time I try and sift through craigslist jobs.

I’ve cooked a few really tasty recipes like Chicken Marsala, adult fried chicken, and an indian curry. But I haven’t felt like blogging or taking photos. I really love doing it normally but it does make the whole cooking process a little more involved. “Involved” or “effort filled” just really isn’t on the agenda these days.

I spent a few days just watching TV. The Damages show on Netflix is AWESOME and takes 100% of your brain power to watch. Which is good because I keep playing the whole job thing over and over in my head trying to make sense of it. None of it makes sense.

I’ve drank (about) 4 bottles of Cupcake Wine since the incident. Which I find complete adequate because adults can drink wine if they want. I want!!

So there you have it… FIRED!

Donner’s face totally looks like he got fired.

Again, I’m so sorry, but they totally don’t deserve your talent! I’m stickin’ with that.

Is it April 21st yet? I’m ready for our game day!

Maren April 12, 2013 at 10:58 am

HAHA. I know. That photo was the perfect photo for that day. He looked so sad all day and all he did was cuddle with me. I think he knew I needed some serious puppy cuddles.

So sorry, Maren. Whoever fired you is a jerk. He/she should have explained. You were still basically in training, right? Hope you find an even better job where they will cherish you because you are the best!

Hugs and love, Kathleen

Maren April 12, 2013 at 10:57 am

There hadn’t been any training… it’s the strangest situation.

Pretty sure that is the stupidest reason I have ever heard to get fired!!? They are dumb. I am so sorry that happened to you, but eh, you are too good for them anyways. They are probably already regretting it.

What’s cupcake wine?! I want some even if its not good.

Maren April 12, 2013 at 10:56 am

So stupid! I know. Still mind boggled about it. Your cats are the cutest cats ever, btw. Cupcake Vineyards!!! I guarantee your grocery store has it. They have red velvet (Which is my favorite) but the pino, the chardonnay, and the sauvignon blanc are my favorites. Haven’t tried Angel Food yet….

I’m pretty sure that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard. No warning, or anything? I know it may not feel like it now but I think you may be better off. Keep your head up and keep looking. You will find a perfect fit for you.

Maren April 12, 2013 at 10:55 am

Haha. I think I’m probably better off. Thanks Jillian.

Jane April 11, 2013 at 5:57 pm

WHATTTT! That is crazy! Your guy was right though that they were a bit… what’s the word I am looking for? I think you know! You will find something better, I know it! I’ll keep my ears open for you!

PS: Yes, this is Jane. Yes, I may start blogging (AGAIN.) No, I don’t know how long it will last. The end ;)

Maren April 12, 2013 at 10:55 am

For Shizzle! I’m excited you’re maybe blogging again!!!

Kashi @Cape Island Runners April 11, 2013 at 6:56 pm

oh no!so sorry to hear. i am sure that it must feel really terrible and i agree that wine will help but just to be on the safe side, i would chow on some cupcakes too :) def have a pity party, but then work on bouncing back. they only knew you for 10 days, it’s not even like a real rejection! sounds like you are better off without them, for sure. and do some cooking, even if you don’t feel like it right now, i bet it will make you feel better as you delve into it – something we all know you are really good at. and you know what? i have told you before, but i LOVE the banner you made me and i get so many positive comments on it. you are great!

Maren April 12, 2013 at 10:55 am

Aww thans Kashi. I loved that banner I did for you guys. IT’s one of my favorites.

Cinnamon @ eatpraytri April 12, 2013 at 8:44 am

Ummm I used to work in HR and that is a crazytown reason to get fired. Must be a really small company? Try not to let it get you too down. You know how good of a worker you are and you will get hired again! Keep the chin up! Prayin for ya! ;-)

Maren April 12, 2013 at 10:54 am

I know!!! I don’t know why I didn’t get a second chance. Losers!!!

Maureen April 12, 2013 at 10:27 am

I feel like this is a late April 1st joke.
That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. My job would love for me to just say “me” and not “us.” Doesn’t that show you are trying to take care of things??
You are much better off not working for a place like that…weirdos!

Maren April 12, 2013 at 10:54 am

Thanks. That’s what I’m thinking too. I’m a little worried that having a “terminated” job on my resume might really hurt me now that I’m applying for jobs again.

Sonia the Mexigarian April 12, 2013 at 11:07 am

Fired for that phrase??? Of all the asinine reasons. What complete bull.

Something better will come along. Just another speedbump in the travel of life. I hope it doesn’t get you down too much. The picture of Donner totally surmises the mood of the day.

I’m sorry hun :\
