Calling All Krispy Kreme Connoisseurs

October 7, 2010

I have the recipe for you! But first I need to tell a little story.

About 40 years ago my Grandma Dot bought a tube of Pillsbury biscuits, looking for a quick and delicious carb addition to dinner. Once home she spotted a recipe on the side of the tube describing krispy quick doughnuts. Those biscuits she held did become biscuits for that night’s supper, as they say in the Midwest- never dinner. But she did buy another tube to attempt the impossible, krispy doughnuts. She made them for my Mom on chilly mornings before school, and on days that needed a little sweet pick-me-up.

So, naturally Mom made them for me and my brother before school. These were the BEST mornings, eating doughnuts and enjoying the time that was usually filled with stress and running around trying to get out the door.

I never liked Krispy Kreme doughnuts, they just didn’t do it for me. But now I know why, I was eating krispy doughnuts way before the Godly Krispy Kreme’s hit the market.

Here is what you need…

First open the tube and take out the pre cut circles of dough. Since it was just me, I made half the tube into doughnuts and then cooked the rest in the oven to make biscuits.

Poke holes in the middle of the biscuit circles. I actually remove some of the dough so that I have a few doughnut holes ;-).

Pour enough oil into your skillet to completely cover the bottom, then heat your oil until boiling. Then place your doughnuts in the skillet. They cook pretty fast so I don’t recommend putting too many in at once.

After removing the doughnuts from the skillet place on a plate with a paper towel on top to dry off the oil. Then dip in sugar for toppings. Enjoy your 5 minute Krispy Kreme’s!!!

Breakfast

My breakfast was krispy doughnuts and coffee.

Holy yum-alicious-wow! Can’t beat coffee and doughnuts for breakfast.

I’ve never been too much of a doughnut fan, we’d go to the doughnut shop after church on Sundays when I was in grade school but I was never a ‘I have to have my doughnut’ kind of person. I DO love these though!

Thank You, You Guys are Amazing!

I want to thank all of you for leaving such sweet comments about my mistake with Foodbuzz, I was feeling so upset about it. After about a million e-mails flooding the cyber telephone e-mail wires and the endless searching of widgets we fixed the problem and I actually didn’t make a mistake after all.

If any of you have a similar problem e-mail me and I’ll give you the fix. It’s stupidly simple.

I hope you enjoy the kirspy doughnuts!
