About CCEB

College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) at Donghua University was established in October 2007 from the mergence of the former College of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering and the Institute of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology. The root of the former College of Chemistry&Chemical Engineering stemmed back to one of the three founding departments of the university (established in 1951), namely, the Department of Textile Chemistry Engineering. The discipline of Textile Chemistry and Dyeing & Finishing Engineering is a recognized National Key Discipline, which is renowned at home and abroad. The former Institute of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, established in October 2004, had drawn on experience from oversea institutions in both organization and management.

After 60 years of development, CCEB currently consists of four departments: Textile Chemistry and Dyeing & Finishing Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Bioengineering, and Chemistry. It also harbors five important research bases, the National Engineering Research Center for Dyeing & Finishing of Textile, the National Manufacturing Innovation Center of Advanced Dyeing & Finishing Technology, the Key Lab of Eco-Textile of the Ministry of Education, Key Lab of Textile Science & Technology (Branch of Dyeing & Finishing) of the Ministry of Education, and the China-France Joint Laboratory for Healthcare Theranostics.

As of the year 2020, the college has 135 faculty and staff members, among which are 45 full professors (38 Ph.D. supervisors) and 51 associate professors. About 75% of our faculty members hold doctoral degrees and more than half of them have oversea studying or working experiences.

As the characteristic discipline of CCEB, Textile Chemistry and Dyeing & Finishing Engineering is listed as a Key Discipline at both the national and municipal level. It is also one of the Key Discipline supported by the 211 Project of the Ministry of Education. CCEB’s new star discipline, Chemistry, is recognized as one of the world top 1% chemistry programs by the ESI ranking lists of disciplinary areas. With a solid strength in student cultivation, CCEB provides three undergraduate level programs in Textile Chemical Engineering (including Sino-Germany cooperative education), Applied Chemistry, and Bioengineering; six master level programs in Textile Chemistry and Dyeing & Finishing Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Technology and  Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology, under the primary discipline; three joint-supervision (with corporations) master programs in Textile Engineering, Chemical  Engineering, and Bioengineering; and two doctoral programs in Textile Chemistry and Dyeing & Finishing  Engineering, Chemistry, and Biomaterials Science.

CCEB actively cooperates with industrial leaders in forms of industrial-academic joint projects. The establishment of Donghua--Transfar (Transfer Group Zhejiang) R&D Center for Green Textile Auxiliaries in 2008 was a good example. CCEB has also set up a number of training bases for the undergraduate and graduate students with leading enterprises in the textile industry in the nearby provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang. A number of enterprises such as Local enterprises, such as Shanghai Anoky Textile Chemicals Co. Ltd., have set up scholarship programs with CCEB in awarding students for academic excellence.

In addition to teaching, our faculty members actively participate in research projects funded by the government and corporations, resulting in fruitful achievement. Since 2006, CCEB has twice won the National Prizes for Progress in Science and Technology, three times won the Provincial and Ministerial Technical Invention Awards; and won the Provincial and Ministerial Scientific and Technological Progress Awards for eleven times (including one first prize, five second prizes, and five third prizes). CCEB has established extensive scientific research cooperation and academic communication with universities and institutions in many developed countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, Israel, and Singapore. As early as 2003, CCEB started a collaboration with Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences, Germany to offer a dual-diploma program in Textile Chemical Engineering, for which participating undergraduate students go to Germany as exchange students in junior and senior years. CCEB also provide students with opportunities to participate in exchange programs with Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Germany and University of California-Davis, USA.
