I danced to my sugar cookie

My grandma actually said to me We’re out of dessert. Will you make something? Seriously! We actually ran out of some food and I was asked to replenish. I felt very conflicted. Every fiber of my being said no! no more food! But I do love baking so I broke out the sugar with my spatula and got to work.

Upon deciding to make the first batch of seasonal sugar cookies

There was dancing…

and embarrassed laughter…

Sugar Cookies make my Excited!

Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp orange zest
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tsp milk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Directions

  1. Cream together butter, sugar, orange zest and vanilla. Once thoroughly mixed add the egg. Then add the milk.
  2. Combine, in a separate bowl, flour, baking soda, and salt. Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture. Combine. Let the dough chill for an hour.
  3. Then roll out dough and cut with cookie cutters. Bake at 375 for 5 to 10 minutes depending on thickness.

I decorated the cookies with a simple sugar icing made with powdered sugar, vanilla and milk. Then I separated the icing into four different cereal bowls and added a drop or two of food coloring to make them festive. I then spooned the icing into the sandwich sized Ziploc bags and snipped the corner off, creating little piping bags.

Any guesses to what this is supposed to be? The guesses in the family are:

  1. sleigh
  2. ice skate
  3. Santa hat

I am slightly embarrassed that people don’t know what it is so I’m not disclosing which one I intended.

I think you need to designate a sugar cookie dance and perform it whenever sugar cookies are baked/eaten. I especially love the ice skate cookie – and how malleable! It can easy become a rollerskate for derby enthusiasts.
