Ankles Ankles Ankles
So the doctors appointment came and went yesterday. We spent an hour there talking to the doctor- never a good sign right?! So here’s the news!
I have a torn ligament and chronic instability due to hyper extended tendons and ligaments. That’s the bad news.
The good news is… that he was expecting to see (due to my having the torn ligament for about 5 years and 3 of those spent playing college level basketball) bad arthritis, lots of cartilage damage with floating pieces, and bone spurs. Luckily none of that was there
that’s a serious yay!
So how we treat it… first order of business is to get the inflammation down! All the excess pain for the last 2 weeks is just inflammation. So I’m “booted” until the end of July and I need to use crutches on long walking trips for the first week or so.
But in order to actually fix the problem we need to do surgery. Very very invasive surgery!
There are 3 different kinds of ankle surgery one is a reparative surgery (less invasive and done orthoscopicly) and the other two are reconstructive and done with a 4-5 inch long incision down the side of your ankle bone
.
Because of the severity of my injury I don’t qualify for reparative surgery. Basically there are 2 different types of reconstructive surgery, how they do it is… They either take a tendon from your knee then drill a hole through your ankle bone and attach the tendon by lacing it through the bone and attaching it to the bone on either side. The more intense one that you never regain full motion of your joint is basically the same except they use a tendon that is already in your ankle, hence the less range of motion.
We are thinking about what we’re doing. I will be having the surgery… at some point. But whether or not we do it now or in 5ish years we don’t know. I’ll keep you all updated.
Thank you so much for your reassuring comments yesterday! They helped me so much! I couldn’t have done it without you all

Ouch! I’m glad it’s not as bad as it could have been, but that still really stinks. I hope it all heals well over time.
Food looks yummy (no surprise there). I’m sorry to hear that you have to have surgery though. Keep strong with the positive attitude because I know that you can handle it, and beautifully at that!
Love the new layout!! Keep your head up. I know how difficult it can be to hear that you need surgery, but if this is what is need for your body than it will be worth it.
My cousin recommended this blog and she was totally right keep up the fantastic work!
