Physical Therapy and Muffins

October 14, 2010

Hey everyone, I’m seriously lacking in the posting department today. I have a ton to share, I have an amazing muffin recipe for this fall, my recap of Physical Therapy :-D , breakfast and lunch eats, and I spent the last hour and a half on a blog header photo shoot. I’m not sharing any of the pictures yet because I want to unveil the whole thing hopefully Monday or Tuesday.

This morning was rough, and when I say rough I mean rough! I woke up at 4:30am with a killer migraine. I don’t know if it was the wine or my prone to migraine brain that hadn’t suffered one in over a year but it was a dozy. I tried to eat some club crackers and pound some water but my tummy didn’t like it and gave it back :-? . After that I felt much better and ate a slice of bread, then slept until about 9.

Breakfast was some home made Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, after feeling sick sometimes something sweet and fried is exactly what I need.

After breakfast my Dad took me to Balance for my Consultation with my Physical Therapist John. I was a little nervous and had a little anxiety since it felt like going to the doctor’s office but all in all John is AMAZING! I really liked him, he was so friendly and explained everything. He thinks he will have me running by the middle of December (16 weeks post surgery)! Isn’t that great?! I’m thrilled.

He spent most of our session taking my history and talking about what the doctor actually did during the procedure. Then he had me walk and he did a LOT of prodding and poking around my ankle which had me a little nervous. Then he showed me all the exercises I have as homework.

There are a lot, luckily he printed me a cheat sheet.

Our main focus right now is to get the swelling down so that I can have more mobility in the joint. John quickly noticed that my joint is so stiff that hey can’t even stretch my calf muscle, which is no bueno since that’s the muscles we need to strengthen in PT. So all of these exercise “homework” assignments I have all focus on mobilizing the joint. I’m going to be seeing John 3 times a week for 2 weeks then 2 times a week from there. We scheduled to the middle of November but after that I’m not quite sure what happens.

After PT dad treated me to some lunch. I didn’t have my camera with me because I wasn’t expecting the PT appointment to be over an hour and a half  . I’m going to try to get some pictures of Balance sometime after I’m more of a regular, I didn’t want to whip out the camera on my first day… in this situation “not cool”.

We went to Mountain Mikes, a local pizza joint that has a lunch buffet. I wasn’t too hungry, my doughnuts were still rolling around making my tummy feel very warm and fuzzy so I had a little salad with romaine, black olive, banana peppers, mushrooms, red onion, tomato and carrots with Italian dressing. Then I had a medium slice of pan crust vegetarian pizza.

I posted a recipe I made last night for Brown Sugar Oat Muffins! They’re amazing fall muffins. A little sweet so you can have them after dinner as a dessert and they taste great in the morning with some buttah and a cup of coffee.

Definitely check them out! I’m a little sore from PT, John did a good job ;-) so I’m going to try to take a nap and work on some blog maintenance for The Big Change!

Running by December! How great is that! Thank you for your sweet comment about my nephew, by the way. He is hanging in there. It has been a HARD 24 hours, but we are all holding onto each other…and we have faith that he’s going to pull through. Your sweet words always bring me such joy and today was no different.
