I must say that after the rave reviews from Max I had quite high expectations for this little sandwich shop. I was even more excited when we pulled off the highway and took a left turn where I didn’t know you could, went down a short side street and saw this little store front hidden between two other large restaurants.
When we went inside the glass case of baked goods immediately caught my attention. It was filled with pumpkin bear claws and blackberry muffins. But we were there for lunch and I was hankering some sandwich bites so we sat down and started scrutinizing the menu.
As promised they had quite the list of vegetarian sandwiches. I ended up choosing the Mediterranean Sandwich, which comes on a home made whole wheat bread (called Nana’s Bread) a garlic aioli with baby spinach, mozarella cheese, sweet onion and a basil pesto sauce. Every sandwich comes with a mixed green house salad as well.
It is such a fun little cafe. People are always in and out, coming into dine or take out. I wish my sandwich hadn’t been so big and I could have tried a baked good, but all the reason to go back
.
Any place that brings your drink in a jar gets extra brownie points from me.
I couldn’t wait to jump in, I immediately took a bite of my sandwich. It was delicious. Veggie sandwiches are so hit or miss for me and this was a big HIT! The bread was out of this world delicious. Especially since one slice is at least two of a normal loaf of bread.
This was a juicy messy sandwich, the best way to have one. Aioli and olive oil pesto sauce was dripping all over the place.
I ate the whole first half and was forced to turn my second half into an open face sandwich. This was a heavy bread that seemed to expand once in my stomach. I was stuffed after half, but it was so delicious I just HAD to finish.
Nothing like fresh salad right in the heart of the Salinas Valley, aka the Salad Bowl of America.
I’m stuffed ‘til dinner I fear, no snack this afternoon. I had open gym this morning then went over to eat at Wild Plum in Monterey. And we just had to do a quick little survey of Trader Joe’s since it was only a block away, but my ankle is definitely ready for some R and R. I’m trying to be a good patient and not push it too hard on the weekend since school has started. See ya’ll for dinner.

The name alone had me sold! And then the beautiful sunflower? Just too cute! Your sandwich looked so lovely and yummy too. I’m all about the messiness. There is no better way to enjoy your food than to get your hands a bit dirty. I wish I could walk to Trader Joe’s….they need to open one in Texas or I need to move out to your parts. I’m not meant to be without it!
Much love sweet woman!
