Hey everyone. I had the most amazing afternoon. It all started with a trip over to Monterey to see Max. It was promising to be a rainy afternoon. The clock read 1:24 and it was time for lunch
Wild Plum Cafe & Bakery
This is a local, hidden gem. I went there with Max once before and thought I needed a second taste when the lunchtime hunger pangs kicked in.
It was packed inside so we set up on the patio in hopes of getting lunch down before the rain.
After a quick parooze of the menu the Basil Burger caught my eye. When Max said That’s my favorite burger EVER! I had to try it. ‘EVER’ is a pretty lofty word.
I love the Wild Plum’s decor. It’s so country shabby. The drinks even come in jars.
We talked for a while, ordered and I took pictures. It felt refreshing to sit outside with the promising rain. But, eventually drops started collecting on our table and lucky for us a family of three left the cafe so we ventured inside to enjoy our meal.
I’m always surprised at how much I like drinking coffee while eating sandwiches.
Once inside a little patch of sun came out to taunt us but we stayed inside and sheltered since our food came out almost immediately after sitting down.
The basil burger with a side of pesto pasta salad. Honestly, the burger isn’t too special but the bread deserves an Oscar. Homemade bread takes everything to the next level.
As soon as it came I looked at Max and he laughed. He knew I was thinking I don’t know how I’m going to eat this. It was so huge. Further examining made me think cutting it in half would help.
… I was right. This bread is amazing. It’s dense, and expands when you eat it. But it’s still light and airy. Melt’s in your mouth is the perfect cliché. I took a little less than half the sandwich and almost all the pasta salad home.
We had the misfortune, well- let’s be honest luckiest fortune to sit next to the bakery case. I kept eyeing it after every bite of my burger.
As soon as we sat down and looked over we both knew we’d be leaving with a little brown bag of something sweet. We just didn’t know what. After much deliberation and scrutiny-
Strawberry muffin that smelled crazy delicious. Max and I named it the Strawberry Shortcake Muffin because it smelled so sweet.
After lunch we went on a very important errand. I’ve been wanting a non-stick baking sheet for my baking pan and a certain cooking store of joy, commonly called Williams Sonoma seemed like the most promising place to start my search. Off to the mall we went.
They had exactly what I wanted. I was expecting to find something similar but not a SILPAT! Now only one problem… which size? After comparing to the size of the baking sheets I went with the half size.
This could not have been a more exciting purchase!
After finding my first choice baking sheet Max treated me to Harry Potter! Can the afternoon get any better?!
I hope you all had a great Saturday!
