Welcome to Sausalito, CA!

Well. We did it. 4 Days and we’re 95% moved and Bay Area people.

Max, Donner and I moved from Salinas/Monterey, CA to Sausalito, CA which is a little harbor town just on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge. We are happy to report that despite some predictions of rain we have perfect moving weather. Wheew.

Thursday was all about loading up. We picked up the UHaul and packed up Max’s Monterey apartment and all my stuff from the parent’s house.

Donner was a very good puppy during the whole thing. And he LOVES riding in the big UHaul.

After a full day of packing we chilled on my parents sofa eating takeout Chinese food.

Why did we have to get the move done so quickly? Well… Max finishes work in his Monterey office on Friday and next Monday he has to be in the new San Francisco office. We didn’t want to move everything this upcoming weekend and be really tired on his first day of work in the Financial District. Plus this gave us a little wiggle room if we couldn’t get the internet set up and stuff like that.

We moved everything up to Sausalito and unloaded.

I drove the funky, unsaleable boxes and weird stuff we didn’t feel like throwing in the UHaul for fear of damage.

FYI, the Kitchenaid was right behind my seat!!

I felt a little bad for my growing-like-a-weed puppy. He was all squished in the passenger seat. But he just napped the entire way. Huge, sigh of relief.

Here’s the entire view from our roof balcony. It’s right outside a sliding glass door at the top of the stairs. Isn’t it gorgeous?!?! I’m drinking my morning coffee out there like, every single day!

After we unloaded all our boxes, a sofa, and a really unruly mattress we hit the Emeryville Ikea for the furniture. Our loft is really tiny so we chose to sell most of Max’s furniture and get smaller stuff so our apartment felt more roomy.

We had a quick lunch at a California Pizza Kitchen before hitting Ikea. I can’t do Ikea on an empty stomach. We split a roasted veggie salad and a chipotle pizza. Then we went home to assemble and unpack.

Max’s parents, his sister and her friend were coming Saturday at lunchtime and we needed to get things sorted ASAP.

Saturday & Sunday

Here’s how the apartments looking right now. We still have a few things to get, like a desk and some art hung up on the walls. But it’s mostly all done.

The kitchen is probably my favorite room. I can’t wait to get cooking.

Before our guests arrived we got some bagel breakfast sandwiches and took Donner for his first walk on our new hiking trail. It’s right outside our complex and it goes into the Golden Gate Recreation Area.

We were exhausted by the time Max’s family arrived. Luckily they were fine hanging out at the apartment chit-chatting and going out to a late lunch.

Max had Monday off so we could do some last minute tidying up before heading back to Monterey for the week. We made a quick run by Target and organized the closets.

Neither one of us really wanted to leave for the week. Our new apartment is pretty nice.

Before we left we had a fancy and fun lunch in Down Town Sausalito at the Napa Valley Burger Co.

We drooled over the menu and savored every bite of the entire meal. We’ve already blocked off a day each week for the foreseeable future to eat there.

We had the truffle french fries, and some local Napa Valley Red Ale.

I had the blue cheese burger that came with the usual fixings, thick cut bacon, and an onion ring. We have to go again before the end of March because the burger of the month is the Truffle Bacon Burger!

It’s safe to say, we’re pretty happy in Sausalito and we both wanted to turn around and go back as soon as we crossed the bridge to go south.

It’s a new chapter. It’s going to be so much fun. And I know we’ll have lots of fun adventures.

It is Brandi, thanks. I’m really excited and cant wait to get all my loose ends at my old home tied up so we can go back!!!

Your view is amazing! Glad everything went okay moving. That never seems to be an easy, nonstressful time in my house.

How is the Don taking it? I always worry about moving with my cat, smaller area for him and such. Don’t want him to be sad.

Yup, my cats feelings are more important then mine.

Donner loves it! Well… most of it. we live on the second floor and then we have a little-steep staircase in the loft so Donner hates all the stairs. Sometimes he lays down at the top or the bottom and we have to pull him a little to go up or down, lol. It’s really cute and funny. But he really likes that his sunny window napping spot is carpeted now, before it was linoleum.

Yay! I was anxiously awaiting this post all weekend. haha. So glad to see a recap of how it went.

I can’t wait to meet up and take Ryder on that trail with Donner in the future. :)

David & I moved into our own place in Aug 2009, and it was so exciting! I loved being out on our own. You definitely grow up with all the responsibilities of like, buying your own T.P. (still not a favorite thing of mine to buy…) & laundry detergent..haha. The trade off is so worth it though! I hope you guys will enjoy your time there!

Ohh the trail is awesome. So many dogs on it all the time. Donner loves meeting all of them. Ryder will love it too.

I’m excited to have our own place. It’s really nice and it’s so cool to be in control of the kitchen and how everything is organized in the apartment.

Been waiting for this post!! been coming to the site to see if you posted anything. haha. stalkerish much.

Simply gorgeous over there! So lucky with the awesome view and the trail so close to you :) i can imagine you three will be hitting those trails quite a bit. and near all that great food!! I heard many a good thing about Sausalito restaurants. so glad the move went well and you are settling in. Moves can be rough, but exciting as we transition into the next chapter in our lives. So happy for you three!

I moved to San Diego for college, met Eric, wrangled him back up to the Bay Area (not too hard since he’s a Prunedale boy) and after a few years we moved into an apartment together. We married and then began the house hunt. Coming up on a full year of living in our house now. insane.

Cheers to new adventures for you and your boys :)

Thanks Sonia! It’s not too stalkerish… I was getting emails asking for posts from a few people. LOL. I’m glad everyone is as excited as I am. It’s totally awesome up there and you are always invited over. Bring your puppies! We live in a VERY dog friendly complex.

Maureen March 13, 2013 at 10:35 am

YAY!! Congrats to the 3 of you for surviving the move!! :)

Just an FYI – for some reason your blog isn’t showing up in my Reader anymore. Not sure if anyone else is having the same problem or not.
